The last few weeks have been mostly busy if I don’t count last week which was a long lazy gee wizz Barb played me out week. I am not sure where to begin as a great deal has occurred since my last post, most of it very good.
I shall begin with course work and move into more interesting material later. All my grades were in Friday and I have another semester of 4.0 finished. My first year has went well and I am half-way to the end of the MLIS. There has been some interesting material, but the coursework has not been as challenging as I would have hoped. I suppose I could make it more challenging for myself, but I find I am very much a novice in many of the areas of study and just learning the basics does not allow for more in-depth study. The challenge for next semester, assuming I have the time as I also have to do a practicum, is to try and go deeper than this past semester. I will check back in a half year and see if that actually happened. :)
Now for the fun part, Barb’s visit. She arrived May first on a plane that was an hour late. I was a bit surprised to see how much she has changed since we last saw each other (3 years!), and it was not all bad. She is looking healthy, though a bit skinny. However, given that she is a long distance runner, she is in extremely good shape. I am proud of what she has achieved with her running, and a bit envious as I cannot do what she is doing.
Sunday I took her on a tour of Denton, round the older historical area near UNT to begin with and finishing out near where I go to class, when I go to class. We had lunch out, and were able to do it on the outdoor patio place where we ate. It was a bit cool (windy and partly overcast), but it was a pleasure for her to be able to do so as it was still to cold up north to do such things. Later, at UNT, she sat in a field of flowers and had a photo taken.
Monday we went on a road trip to Fort Worth to see the pretty flowers at the botanical garden. Most everything was in bloom, even one blossom on a magnolia (awesome trees I think). After two and a half hours there, she was brain burnt and could no longer enjoy the pretty stuff. I was a bit weary as well, so home we went for a relaxing evening.
Tuesday we went to Lewisville to check out the natural forest, but the place I wanted to visit is only open Friday to Sunday. Instead, I took her to the local mall and made her shop for stuff she needed. I do believe the rest of the day was spent relaxing, if we did do anything else I don’t remember.
Wednesday, we went to Plano to visit the Whole foods there. More money was spent, but it was a pleasant drive. Barb saw some cool thistles growing along the side of the road in a construction zone and was terribly disappointed when I would not stop so she could pick some. Later that day she made her tabbouleh (which is awesome). That evening I took her for a drive round the area and we ended up traveling down a narrow road in the country. The tree branches reached across the road in places, and Barb was excited to see some real Texas long horns in their native territory. She made me stop so she could take a photo of a donkey, long horn cow and calf in a field. I did find some thistles for her to pick later in the drive.
Thursday was a busy day for me. Carol and I were packing for our trip/wedding and getting ready for the wedding. Hair cuts all around, morning meetings, gassing of cars, etc., etc.
Barb was able to go for a couple of runs down the trail at the Elm Fork Green zone (not sure what the place is called, but it is green at the moment) and to walk over to a local field and pick some wild flowers. Those flowers lasted from when she picked them (Wednesday night? to Monday night).
Friday, we left for Hot Springs Arkansas. Bowls of food and water were set out for the cats. Immediately, Charlie began scratching in one of the shallow bowls, throwing water everywhere. For most of the next few days I was concerned that the poor kitties were without water. We were at the court house round about noon and were licensed shortly there after. The clerk called Carol a cougar, which delighted both of them. From there we went to the village and picked up our condo keys, then to the condo to dump our stuff, then to Carol’s parents. The evening was fun (except for a little food problem, darn vegans), and it was very nice to see Carol’s parents and siblings once again. Her family has been very nice and welcoming to me right from the start, and I love it.
In the afternoon Joe had a surprise party for Nancy (80th!), with lots of relatives and friends. It was different for me to observe this party. I took some photos, I wandered around, I watched. Every one seemed to have fun, though the day was long and exhausting. Near the end of the day, John (Carol’s cousin) sang a few songs that were emotionally touching, and one that was rather humorous. All in all, it was an excellent day.
Sunday I woke early, had a coffee, woke Barb, and off we went to Little Rock. Other than a short detour caused by my GPS, the trip was uneventful. I left her at the airport (sad and a bit bummed I was) and returned to the condo. Carol was ready to go, so off we went to her parents place, visited a little, and then headed home. The trip home was exhausting, but safe. The kitties were curious about these strangers in their home, but not suffering as much as feared. They still had water and tons of food. In fact, I suspect they did not eat much as the food was not in their normal bowls, fussy creatures. As I was eating a quick supper (pasta and marinara sauce), I tracked Barb’s flight and saw that she should have arrived in Edmonton 21 minutes ahead of schedule. This turned out to be totally wrong as plane trouble at Little Rock had held her up and she did not arrive home until the next day. Sounds to me like the return voyage was no fun at all, long and tiring and icky. But she did return home safe, if a bit later than desired.
Monday was a rest day (after waking way to early after going to bed way to early). Tuesday I was up early again to take the car to the dealer (oil/filter change and tire rotation (brake check)). Everything is looking OK, though we may have to get new tires/brakes come November or so.
The rest of the week I spent lazing about cause I was exhausted. Today is actually the first day I have done anything productive (mowed the lawn) since we made it home a week ago.
I have also started working on a diet again. I have not been feeling well for some time, and I will lose some weight and start exercising more to give me more energy and less blahs in general. For the rest of today I am going to work on a summer plan of work. Writing, reading, writing. I will work on photos this week, and hopefully have more to post later.
A record of my life updated at random times and for random reasons.

For now, here are a few photos:
Wedding Vows:
Civil Wedding Ceremony
We are gathered here today to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, to give recognition to the worth and beauty of love, and to add our best wishes to the words which shall Unite Mike Lingrell and Carol Perryman in marriage.
Should there be anyone who has cause why this couple should not be united in marriage, they must speak now or forever hold their peace.
Who is it that brings this woman to this man?
Mike Lingrell and Carol Perryman , I would ask that you both remember to treat yourself and each other with respect, and remind yourself often of what brought you together today. Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your marriage deserves. When frustration and difficulty assail your marriage -as they do to every relationship at one time or another--focus on what still seems right between you, not only the part that seems wrong, this way, when clouds of trouble hide the sun in your lives and you lose sight of it for a moment, you can remember that the sun is still there. And if each of you will take responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight.
(Groom) _ Mike, do you take _Carol to be your Wife? ("I do") Do
you promise to love, honor, cherish and protect her, forsaking all others
and holding only unto her forevermore?
("I do")
(Bride _Carol, do you take Mike to be your Husband? ("I do") Do you
promise to love, honor, cherish and protect him, forsaking all others
and holding only unto him forevermore? "(I do")
(Groom) With this ring, I take you as my wife, for as long as we both shall live.
(Bride) With this ring, I take you as my husband, for as long as we both shall live.
Mike and Carol as the two of you come into this marriage uniting you as husband and wife, and as you this day affirm your faith and love for one another, I would ask that you always remember to cherish each other as special and unique individuals, that you respect the thoughts, ideas and suggestions of one another. Be able to forgive, do not hold grudges, and live each day that you may share it together -as from this day forward you shall be each other1s home, comfort and refuge, your marriage strengthened by your love and respect for each other.
Just as two threads woven in opposite directions will form a most beautiful
tapestry, so too can your two lives merged together make a beautiful marriage. To make your relationship work will take love. This is the core of
your marriage and why you are here today. It will take trust, to know in
your hearts that you truly want the best for each other. It will take dedication, to stay open to one another -and to learn and grow together. It will take faith, to go forward together without knowing exactly what the future brings. And it will take commitment, to hold true to the journey you both pledge today to share together.
It is my privilege to present to you Mr. & Mrs. Mike Lingrell.
NOTE: Carol will be keeping her maiden name for reasons I am too lazy to go into here, and now. :)

It is too early in the morning to be sitting on the couch waiting for coffee to finish cooking, but here I am. I woke from a dream of a rather large dust devil powering up, leaves moving slowly along its entire height. As I watched, it sped up and roared down the street filling the house with dust. It was real enough to get my eyes open, and real enough that there was thunder rumbling outside. Or is it the other way round, the thunder was real enough to drive the dream?
This morning I take Barb to the Little Rock airport and say goodbye :(. We have had a wonderful time and I will miss her.
I will write more about the wedding later this week when I am home and a little rested.
Update: I am home, cats petted and fed, plants watered, me fed and showered and feeling a bit rung out. Long weekend!!

This is the fifth day for Barb in Texas. So far she has been having fun. Sunday we toured Denton, Monday we went to Fort Worth and looked at the flowers in the botanical garden, Tuesday we went to a cool park, but it is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday so we did not enter. Yesterday we went to Plano (aka Dallas) and visited Whole Foods.
Barb made her tabbouleh last night for supper, and it was excellent.
The weather has been mostly balmy. There was a shower Tuesday night, but the rest of the week the temps have been great for a vacation. Going to hit 90 today. Course she will go home and find the temps this nice all summer probably.
Tomorrow we leave for Arkansas. Saturday I get married. Sunday Barb goes home :( and so do we. Monday I get to rest.

I awoke early this morning thinking about management quizzes. So, I hopped out of bed, fed the cats (always first in this house), put the coffee on, and wrote the final quiz. That course is done, at least the work portion as I sill have to return and read a few responses posted by fellow students. I also did the final edit and submitted my final essay for the cataloging course. All that remains undone for this semester is the final exam for the research course and I have hopes that I will be able to write that soon. I am very relieved to have the majority of the course work completed. Only one more year of school left!!
It is a windy morning. I was hoping to sit outside, but the wind is to wicked to permit comfortable lazing about sipping coffee. I think this would be a great morning to have a nice shelter of some kind that blocked the wind but let me sit outside enjoying the noisy birds. With the final submission of my stuffs for school, I no longer have any excuses to avoid cleaning the house. Barb arrives in two days (can't count today as it is here already, probably shouldn't count Saturday as she will be here, so really only one day!!). There is not much left to do, it just requires doing.
The long range weather forecast looks decent for Barb's visit and my wedding. Highs in the high 70's and low 80's with lots of sun and little rain. I am getting very excited to see her again, it has been a long time.
Three years in fact. I arrived in Chapel Hill three years ago come Friday. So, it has been exactly three years since I said good bye to Barb today! A lot of things have changed in those three years, most of them good things. Those years have went by so fast!
This spring, in a fit of eager gardening, I chopped a rose bush in front of the front window down to about a foot and a half high. This morning it must exceed 6 feet in height. I wonder how it would look if there were a trellis for it to cling to...Because I whacked it down, I doubt there will be any roses this year, and given its growth pattern, probably none next either.
One of these mornings, when the wind is not so fierce, I am going to slip out and take some close up photos of flowers and such in our yard. Now that I am not totally busy with school work I have time to play a bit.

Sometime last night a thunderstorm grumbled its way through town. The remnants still leak a little ensuring the green remains. The rain has been falling often enough to keep everything a brilliant green. It soothes the eyes.
Sitting here in the dark sipping coffee, listening to the rain (windows open to ensure a breeze and the sound passes easily from one side of the house to another), I feel at home and comfortable. The gardens and yards in the area are quite spectacular, but what is really amazing are the fields full of Indian paintbrush and bluebonnets. Masses of red and blue in empty landscapes. Though have not seen one yet, an old abandoned farm stead would look rather nice set down into such a field.
I have one week until sis arrives. One week to finish course work and clean house. I don't have much course work left. One assignment, one essay, and a few small things to clean up. Should have no problem getting them done. Well, except for the cleaning. I hate cleaning.
Have to stay out of the down town today as there is a jazz festival going on. If I had more spare time I would go check out some of the acts. Sounds like some big names will be in town. Live jazz is cool.
I was going to go around fertilizing stuff this morning, but I guess I won't be able to do so. My hydrangea is covered in potential blossoms, and one of those is starting to put out little floweretes. I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes that it will be in full blossom next week.
